Pioneering data-driven social sciences: national and local initatives over the past 20 years

This conference looks back on 20 years of existence of the Lille University Data Platform (Plateforme universitaire de données de Lille).

As the first platform of its kind, we found it important to first look at the reasons leading to its creation, as well as to examine the institutional context in which its development took place.

This platform, as those that followed elsewhere in France, has played – and continues to play – an essential role in shaping the social sciences and humanities disciplines in France. The research infrastructure Progedo and the network of Maisons des sciences de l'homme (a national network of regional Social Science Insitututes) have been working hand-in-hand to implement large-scale initiatives that empower the SSH community to respond to the modern challenge of managing quantitative data and to be champions of open science policies and data dissemination.
